If you are unfamiliar with this navigation format please take the time to plot these examples. Even if you are familiar please make sure you understand how our implementation works.

All the instructions will be given in numbered boxes:

Sample Tulip Box

  • The centre of the box shows the tulip instruction. This may be a diagram as shown, or it may be text.
  • The top left of the box shows the box number. You will be told which box to begin plotting at by the marshal at the control. Plot using the boxes in numerical order until you reach the next control.
  • The top right of the box shows that there is a PC present at or after that junction.
  • "GW" indicates that you should be prepared to stop at that junction.
  • "STOP" indicates you must stop at the standing giveway at that junction.
  • The Triangle indicates that you should proceed the long way round an unmarked triangle at that junction.
  • Where a Triangle is combined with a stop or give way, you may need to stop or give way more than once.
  • There may be additional instructions such as "Q" and "Dip" overlayed over the tulip instruction.

Try plotting this example.

If you don't have the map to hand, try using Streetmap - you'll have to scroll it around a little to follow the entire route.

The route book, given out at the start of the event, would be:

The route instructions (which would be given out by the marshals at each TC) are:

Use Box 1 from MTC100.
Use Box 36 from STC101.
Use Box 16 from STC102.

Points to note.

Further Help

If you have any problems with the example please try the following (you will get better results from lower numbered options!):

  1. Ask an expert at your motor club's next social.
  2. Ask one of the organisers for help one evening (but not in the week before the event!)
  3. Ask at the start
  4. Ask at the driver's briefing

We would like to see you all get round the complete route, so please don't be afraid to ask for help. We will do what we can to help you. The Rally is intended to be a competition between the crews who have entered, it is NOT a competition between the organisers and the crews (despite how it might seem on the night).
